Events in the low 3 range are felt close to the epicenter and almost never damage residential structures. A slab that was sound on Monday is still sound on Tuesday.
What small quakes really do is make people notice. The hairline running out from a control joint has usually been sitting there for years, and shaking simply sends someone out to look at it.
Why Orange County Slabs Crack in the First Place
Concrete shrinks as it cures and keeps shrinking slowly for months afterward. That shrinkage is the single most common source of thin cracks in a residential garage anywhere in California.
The rest comes from what sits underneath. Clay soils inland around Anaheim and Santa Ana swell when they take on water and pull back when they dry out, which lifts and drops slab sections over the years.

Only after that does the product conversation matter. A full garage floor build gives you thickness and a hard wearing base, while a polyaspartic topcoat cures fast enough to get cars back inside quickly and holds color under OC sun.
If your repairs are extensive, texture helps. A broadcast flake finish visually breaks up the surface so patched areas disappear, which a flat solid color will never do.

- Move the cars out and sweep the whole slab so you can see it
- Run a key or coin along each crack and note anywhere it catches or steps down
- Look at the door threshold for flaking, pitting, or a dark moisture line
- Check the wall base for water staining, which points at drainage rather than the slab
- Take photos with something for scale in the frame
Those photos are the fastest way to get a real answer instead of a guess. Most cracks in Orange County garages are cosmetic and prep handles them without drama.
